Children’s Crochet Patterns

Beaded Necklace

Designed by Dixie L. Berryman for the Craft Yarn Council of America

Supplies: Scrap yarn (cotton or acrylic may be used), G hook, 1 or 2 packages of Pony Beads, yarn needle.

Slip all beads onto yarn with yarn needle.

Chain 120.

Join with slip stitch into first chain, slip stitich into each chain until round is worked. Do not turn.

Beading Row 1: (Wrong side): All stitchess are worked into the back loop only. *Chain 1, slip bead to hook, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch in next stitch so the bead stays beside the skipped stitch,* repeat between ** until all beads are used. End yarn and cut to 3 inch length; hide end with yarn needle into wrong side.

For two rows of beads, buy 2 packages of beads, place both onto yarn before beginning work. When 2/3 of the necklace length is beaded (or 36 beads), chain 2, turn.

Row 2: *Slide bead to hook and hold on front of work, slip stitch into chain-1 space between last two beads of previous row, chain 2* (bead should be between beads of previous row), repeat between ** until 1 bead remains on the previous row, slip stitch into next stitch. End yarn same as Row 1.

 

Curley Ties

Supplies: Bright colored variegated worsted weight yarn, G hook.

Chain 12, place safety pin to mark, chain 63.

Row 1: With wrong side of chain facing, 2 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook under "hump" (1 thread on wrong side of chain), 2 single crochet in each of next 11 chain, slip stitch in each chain's "hump" to safety pin, 2 single crochet in each of last 12 chains. End yarn.

Chain may be longer if desired.

 

Crocheted Hair Band

Supplies: Worsted weight yarn, H hook; package of rubber-centered hair bands.

Optional: package of smaller macramé beads (contrast color to yarn). Beads must be large enough to thread onto worsted weight yarn.

Round 1: Using the hair band as the center ring, double crochet until the ring is completely covered without overlapping stitches.

Round 2: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in each stitch to the beginning chain-3, join with slip stitch. End yarn.

For beading: thread beads onto yarn before Round 1. Work Rounds 1 & 2 without using beads. Do not end yarn. Work Round 3.

Round 3: *Chain 3, pull bead to hook, chain 3, skip next double crochet, 1 double crochet in following stitch,* repeat between ** until round is completed. Join to beginning stitch. End yarn.

 

Ribbed Wrist or Head Band

Supplies: Worsted weight yarn, G hook.

Chain 9.

Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd stitch from hook, 1 single crochet in each chain (8 stitches). Chain 1, turn.

Row 2: One single crochet in back loop of each stitch. Chain 1, turn.

Repeat Row 2 until piece will slip over hand and fit wrist (or head) when joined to form a circle. Slip stitch last row to Row 1. End yarn.

Beads may be crocheted into one side for bracelet or decorated head band. Beads must be threaded onto yarn before beginning chain.

Every other row: Pull bead to hook, single crochet in first stitch, *single crochet in next stitch, pull bead to hook*, repeat between ** to end of row.

 

Crocheted Hand Pincushion

Supplies: Worsted weight yarn, 1 oz. each of 2 colors, H hook.

Gauge: 15 stitches = 4 inches

Chain 93.

Round 1: Double crochet in 4th chain from hook, and each chain to the last, 9 double crochet in last chain. Do not turn. Twist piece upside down, double crochet in bottom of each stitch as if working in the round. End after working in last stitch. This end will be squared and not rounded. Cut yarn.

Round 2: With contrast color yarn, attach yarn in top of first double crochet, chain 3, 2 double crochet in each of the next 28 stitches, chain 1, single crochet in each stitch to last double crochet of previous round, chain 1, single crochet in last double crochet, single crochet across squared end to finish, slip stitch in first double crochet of round. End yarn.

Tie: Chain 22 inches. End and cut yarn. Twisted cord may be used for tie.

To form hat, roll piece from small to large end, so the 2 double crochet end forms a brim. Wrap with tie, knot into a bow.

 

Jewelry Bag

Design of the Craft Yarn Council of America.

Supplies: 1 oz. of acrylic, sport weight yarn, H hook.

Chain 4, join with a slip stitch (sl st) to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Chain 1, 8 single crochet (sc) in ring; do not join, mark end of each round (rnd). Work in back loops only beginning with Rnd 2.

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next sc] 8 times - 16 sc.

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 8 times - 24 sc.

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc] 8 times - 32 sc.

Rnd 5: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc] 8 times - 40 sc.

Rnd 6-15: Sc in each sc around.

At end of Rnd 15, join with a sl st in both loops of next sc. Now work remaining rnds in both loops.

Rnd 16: Ch 4, skip next sc, [dc in next st, ch 1, skip next sc] 19 times, join with a sl st in 3rd ch of ch-4.

Rnd 17: Ch 1, [2 sc in next ch-1 sp] 20 times, join to first sc.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Make 2 twisted cords starting with a 3-yard length of yarn for each. Weave each through ch-1 spaces of Rnd 16 in opposite directions. Knot ends of cord together; trim ends.
