Teach for CGOA

CGOA wants you to teach!

Do you have a great crochet class idea?

Get paid to teach it live online!

The Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) offers a year-round online education program. Founded in 1994, the CGOA provides education and networking opportunities and sets a national standard for the quality, art and skill of crochet. We seek knowledgeable instructors who can teach a range of live, virtual classes geared for the enthusiastic emerging crocheter, the experienced master crocheter and every crocheter in between.

5 reasons to teach for CGOA

  1. Enhance your reputation as a fiber artist by aligning with a national nonprofit crochet organization.
  2. Get paid to teach. The more students who register for your class, the more you will earn.
  3. Increase your exposure to a wider audience of crocheters.
  4. Receive class administrative support from CGOA.
  5. Retain the rights to your own creative property.

What we’re looking for

We'd like technique and project classes, as well as classes suited to a variety of skill levels and professional development. We are interested in offering a variety of class lengths, from single 1–2-hour classes to longer multi-session classes with homework, skill building or project progress between each session. Instructors must be comfortable using Zoom video software to teach.

We are not seeking submissions for classes that teach non-crocheters how to crochet. There are many existing online and in-person classes for true beginners.

Tips for strong class proposals

  • The class description should be thorough and engaging. This is what CGOA will use to advertise the class.
  • Good-quality promotional photos are key. They will help us market your class, tell your story, and introduce you to a wider audience.
  • To maximize class time, consider homework as a teaching tool. Whether assigned before the first session or between sessions, homework can help set class expectations and increase instructional time with your students.
  • Include at least two options for when you might be able to teach the class. Keep in mind that students participate from multiple time zones and have a variety of work and family commitments.
  • Include information about you as a fiber artist, such as the number of years you’ve been crocheting and teaching.
  • Explain your social media presence and how you intend to help promote your class to potential students.
  • Do not use or make reference to any trademarked or copyrighted material in your class unless you own the trademark/copyright or have a license to do so.

Compensation overview

Upon successful completion of the class, CGOA will compensate the instructor at the rates listed below. Every class must have a minimum of 7 paid students registered at least 5 business days prior to the first scheduled class, otherwise the class will be canceled.

Classes are recorded via Zoom and registered students will have view-only access to the video for two weeks following the class.

Number of Students Compensation Rate
7 - 10 $100/hour
11 - 20 $125/hour
21 or > $135/hour
